I just made Shijuku my role model at that time. Whisper of the Heart made me even more motivated. It was a good form of escapism at that time I guess. And the romance in it just reminded me of own sorry state. I wasn't passionate about anything at all. "Latin Quarters" made me feel like I was missing out on something my entire life, a proper hobby. We didn't have school clubs and watching that just made me envious of school clubs. It started with From Up on the Poppy Hill. That was when I started watching Ghibli movies once more. Girls and boys have their own cliques now. I have stopped interacting with the person I used to banter and have fights with on a daily basis aka 'my crush'. I have become a shy person over the years. At this point, I wasn't watching anime or series, I was studying day in and day out. The board exam is going to be one of the most important exam in my life, my future depends on it. Naruto and Clash of Clans is a huge thing right now. This was the time I watched Death Note and branched out in a completely different direction.įast forward 4 years, I am now in Grade 10. It's not that I hadn't used internet at all but I came to realise that I could watch this thing called anime and series on some "specific sites" and not just on TV. Spirited Away, Laputa, Arrietty, Totoro, Kiki, Earthsea and so on.Īt this point, I discovered something known as internet. These movies would all be in subs, so I would watch it with extra attention and care given the work I had to do that whole day to watch the movie. During the summer vacation in grade 6, I was just marathoning every Ghibli movie I could find from that shop and would keep telling the owner to get me more Ghibli movies. Summer was vacation time and "movie nights" were a thing after all assignments and house chores were over (given that I hadn't made my mom angry one way or another). ![]() At that time, CDs were the thing and I remember riding my cycle in the summer heat for an hour or so to get to the CD shops (which I now realise were basically pirated and burned into the disks given how cheap they were). I have watched my fair share of Ghibli movies mainly due to my father introducing me to Spirited Away which eventually led me to other Ghibli movies.
